Virginia Teacher Certification and Qualifications
To teach in a public or private school in Virginia, you will need to obtain a teaching license. To earn a Virginia teaching certificate you’ll need to hold a bachelor’s degree, complete a teacher education program that is state-approved, pass state-selected assessments, and complete the application process. The traditional path to licensure in Virginia leads to a five-year renewable certificate, the Collegiate Professional License. There are alternative paths to obtaining certification if you hold a bachelor’s degree but have not completed the state’s teacher prep program.
